This gas chamber door in the concentration camps were used as killing centers.
Each gas chamber was closed by metal doors and was bolted shut before gas entered the chamber inside. SS guards could observe the killing process through peepholes in the upper center of the door.

In The Book Thief, a foster girl named, Liesel Meminger can not read or write so she steals books to try and teach herself how to read and write. In the Holocaust there were many people who didn't know how to read or write either and would find and sneak books to teach themselves just like in The Book Thieft.
The Killing Centers played a role in the Holocaust by its assembly- line style of mass murders of human beings.
German SS and police murdered nearly 2,700,000 Jews in the killing centers
either by asphyxiation with poisonous gases or by shooting them.

We in the United States should be all the more thankful for the freedom and religious tolerance we enjoy. And we should always remember the lessons learned from the Holocaust, in hopes we stay vigilant against such inhumanity now and in the future.

"The Holocaust is a central event in many people's lives, but it also has become a metaphor for our century. There cannot be an end to speaking and writing about it. Besides, in Israel, everyone carries a biography deep inside him."

For all those who have died
World war II at its worst
Hardships and trials we face
Decisions that are forced
Freedom we want to taste
Camp after camp in Germany
We have no choice to decline
A different kind of journey
Wondering when it’s your time
Always working no rest
No free time no play
Life becomes a test
Working night and day
Laughter is lost
Kept my belief strong
Bodies thrown and tossed
Knowing it was wrong
I know my word is right
I know others don’t take my side
But that is why I fight
For all of those who have died
